Meghan Markle lovingly calls Nigeria 'my country' after arriving an hour late to event

The royal arrived at the event an hour late after carrying out multiple other engagements alongside Prince Harry earlier in the day. Meghan said at the event: “I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you’ve all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country… my country.

“I am just flattered and honoured and inspired. It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived. “And I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion.” The Duchess of Sussex revealed in 2022 that she is 43 percent Nigerian which she discovered after doing a genealogy test.

She said on her Archetypes podcast: “I’m going to start to dig deeper into all this because anybody that I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, are like ‘What!'” Meghan said after finding out the results she rang her mother Doria “because I wanted to know if she had any awareness of it”. The Sussexes’ tour of Nigeria has been successful so far with the couple discussing a range of issues including mental health awareness and parenthood during their engagements.

On Saturday, Meghan opened up about her love of motherhood and finding balance in her life. The Sussexes have two children together, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 2. Meghan said at an event on Women in Leadership that she co-hosted: “Balance will always change for you. That balance, what seemed balanced ten years ago is going to shift. “And so being a mum has always been a dream of mine. “I’m so fortunate that we have two beautiful, healthy, very chatty sweet children.” Today, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have touched down in Lagos for the final day of their tour of Nigeria.
