Eagles running back D’Andre Swift is opening up about sharing a last name with superstar singer Taylor Swift. The NFL star, 24, is the latest guest on comedian Kevin Hart’s web series Cold As Balls, and in a clip exclusively shared with PEOPLE, Swift was asked how he feels about being roped into the fan frenzy surrounding the “Karma” singer’s ongoing romance with Kansas City Chiefs star, Travis Kelce.
“Your teammate has the last name Kelce,” Hart, 44, said referring to Travis’s brother Jason Kelce. “And you have the last name Swift,” he continued, noting the viral posts on social media, even from the NFL team’s official account, pointing out the connection. Hart asked Swift what he thinks of “the Taylor Swift phenomenon that’s attached to the game,” and the Eagles running back said he’s indifferent to the coincidence between himself and the singer.
“It just involves me cause it’s my name,” Swift told Hart, who jokingly accused the athlete’s lackadaisical reaction to a confession that he “hates” the pop star. “I’m not saying that,” Swift quickly countered, before Hart extended the bit to his show’s producers, who are revealed to be wearing friendship bracelets, now a trademark of Swifties. The hilarious clip shows the comedian and athlete reacting to the show’s production assistants sporting numerous friendship bracelets on set, as Hart and Swift agree that the popstar is a great performer.
“I’ve been! It’s a great concert,” Hart told the Eagles player. “I’ve heard she puts on a great show,” Swift added. By the end of the segment, Hart is sporting his own Swiftie-inspired friendship bracelet. In September, the Eagles’ official X account (formerly Twitter) joked that Jason, 36, and D’Andre were their “favorite Kelce x Swift duo” in a post.
The team also worked in a reference to the singer, captioning the video, “It hits different,” a nod to a bonus track on her best-selling album, Midnights, titled “Hits Different.”
The new episode of Hart’s series is part of the show’s ninth season, which has included guests like Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, NFL legend Randy Moss and two-time Olympic Gold medalist Carli Lloyd. As Travis and Taylor’s relationship has picked up, fans have poked fun at how the “Anti-Hero” singer’s support for the Chiefs is a “betrayal” of her Philadelphia roots.
Taylor grew up near Reading, Penn. and has confirmed she’s a Philadelphia Eagles fan after writing a lyric about an Eagles t-shirt in her song “Gold Rush.” A video by superfan Kelly Keegs shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, went viral when the fan said she “cannot believe that Taylor” was at the game with Jason and Travis’ mom, Donna Kelce. Keegs went on to call Travis “so gross” and said she has “no interest” in him or the rumored romance between the two.
Keegs added, “What a betrayal for the Eagles, by the way. [Taylor] sings about Eagles t-shirts in her songs, but she’s doing this?” The viral video caught Jason’s attention and the Eagles center reposted it and wrote, “PREACH!!!! Go Birds!” D’Andre’s episode debuts Dec. 14 at 12 p.m. ET on the Laugh Out Loud YouTube channel, as well as Hart’s Instagram page.
