Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have given a major sign that they may have “gone Rogue” and are refusing to accept they are no longer working royals, according to an expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex infamously quit as working royals in 2020 and Harry was stripped of several royal roles. But the couple are thought to have left King Charles and Prince William “absolutely furious” over their recent tour of Nigeria, which some have labelled an unofficial Royal tour – and which bore several hallmarks of being one.
Harry and Meghan visited the African nation to promote the Invictus Games, but their weekend trip has sparked criticism. Royal author and commentator Tom Quinn revealed that there is anger that Meghan and Harry’s speeches, their visits and receptions and the way they were treated was all “designed to give the impression that they are still fully paid-up royals”.
Mr Quinn said: “William is absolutely furious and determined to find a way to stop this happening in future. Charles is said to be angrier than anyone has ever seen him. What’s really upset the applecart is the fact that that the Nigerians treated Meghan and Harry as if they too thought this was an official tour all the signs were there as the couple were greeted with dances, receptions, visits to schools and charities.”
Mr Quinn suggested that there had been concerns within the Royal Family that the Sussexes “would try to pull a fast one”, and their trip to Nigeria “has confirmed their worst fears.”
He added: “It’s as if Harry and Meghan have gone rogue and their Nigeria trip is a bold statement that they refuse to accept they are no longer working royals. William and Charles are scratching their heads and thinking, ‘How are we going to control this nightmare situation?'”
