Taylor Swift had a lot of consoling to do. The Grammy winner was shown during the CBS broadcast comforting Brittany Mahomes after the Chiefs’ frustrating 20-14 loss to the Raiders on Christmas Day — and then was pictured holding hands with somber-looking boyfriend Travis Kelce.
“Spent my Christmas waiting for these two lovebirds,” Kansas City Star photographer Nick Wagner captioned an Instagram Story of the two together, with Swift half smiling and Kelce looking down towards the ground. Hopefully, the star tight end’s holiday got better as the day went on. The rival Raiders stymied the Chiefs offense — and the loss included a helmet-slamming sideline tantrum from Kelce in the second quarter.
Kelce also briefly exchanged words with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid following the meltdown. “He went back in and did a nice job. Things happen. Emotional game,” Reid said after the game, according to the Kansas City Star. “Travis is emotional, and sometimes my red hair gets to me a little bit.” The Chiefs’ offensive debacle included turnovers on consecutive plays by Patrick Mahomes that both resulted in Raiders touchdowns.
First, Mahomes and running back Isiah Pacheco fumbled an exchange on a trick play, and then Mahomes threw a pick-six, turning a 7-3 lead into a 17-7 deficit. At least Kelce’s relationship with Swift is going strong, with the power couple set to spend the holidays together. Swift’s parents, Scott and Andrea, and her brother Austin — dressed as Santa Claus — were also in attendance for Monday’s game. Kelce previously told People that Christmas would be a “fun one,” while not divulging any specifics.
Swift has become a regular at Kelce’s games as the romance has developed throughout the season. “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there, and we don’t care,” Swift told Time after being named Person of the Year. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.” While Swift resumes her “Eras Tour” in Tokyo in February, Kelce and the Chiefs remain well-positioned to win the AFC West. Kansas City sits at 9-6 and two games clear of Las Vegas and Denver in the AFC West with two games left. The Chiefs finish the season with games against the Bengals and Chargers.
