As Taylor Swift celebrates her 34th birthday, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is staying focused on football as he and his team prepare for their game against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Speculation of how the couple, both 34, would celebrate Swift’s birthday on Wednesday began when reports surfaced that Kelce was planning to throw the “Anti-Hero” singer an epic birthday bash in New York City. However, the NFL star will be in Kansas City for mandatory practices Wednesday, PEOPLE has confirmed.
Sources close to both Swift and Kelce have emphasized their commitment to their individual careers, and the couple celebrated her birthday early with friends in Kansas City at a holiday party on Sunday. Though the Chiefs didn’t secure a win over the Bills that day, the pair appeared to be in good spirits as they joined the team and friends for a party at a holiday pop-up bar in Kansas City later that night.
The couple was spotted posing with partygoers and exchanging sweet kisses in group photos throughout the evening. “He is a gentleman,” a source told PEOPLE of the NFL star last month. “He is very focused on his career. He has a great relationship with his family. He has an amazing energy and approach to life.”
“It all feels very special,” the insider added. The NFL star has continued to prove his commitment to helping Kansas City defend its Super Bowl title. And Swift is ultra-supportive of her beau and his strong work ethic. When Kelce became the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach 11,000 receiving yards last month, Swift was quick to show her support for her man’s history-making efforts, and liked an Instagram post from the Chiefs celebrating the record.
Travis’s brother Jason Kelce pointed out her support on their New Heights podcast later that week, noting, “You might not care about records, but you know who does, a 92 percent-er by the name of Taylor Swift. That’s right. She liked an Instagram announcement from the Chiefs about you breaking this record.”
Kelce has shown his support for Swift when he has the downtime as well. The NFL tight end flew in to support the musician on the South American leg of her hit tour last month, and the couple delighted fans with a romantic moment together one of her shows in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During the concert, Swift made a cheeky lyric change to her hit song “Karma” in a not-so-subtle nod to her athlete beau and, naturally, concertgoers caught his reaction on video. In fan-captured footage from the show, the NFL star watched the singer perform the hit Midnights track while standing in the VIP tent with her dad, Scott Swift.
“Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” Swift sang, causing Kelce to flash a huge grin.
